WISE Overseas Volunteer Work

Wagor-WISE will send a group of students to participate in an international volunteer project in San Francisco, California (USA) from July 22 to August 10. Students will serve as volunteers and teach classes to elementary students from low income families in San Francisco and the Bay Area. The classes include Chinese calligraphy and culture, cooking Taiwanese traditional snacks, science experiments, art, design, and PE.

The international volunteer project will take place at a summer camp held by Temple Baptist Church. The visiting students will be led by two WISE teachers, Janice Huang and Dan Verwoert. Beyond volunteering at the church, students will also join community service programs at St. Anthony’s Foundation on two Thursdays. This community services will include helping elders at a day care center and serving meals at a dining room for homeless people in the inner city of San Francisco.

After two weeks of volunteer work, participating WISE students will have a short trip around Northern California and visit the prestigious University of California Berkeley campus.
